Nepali
top five Websites
Wave
magazine presents its first list of the three most popular
Nepali websites, starting with those for the year 2004. While
Nepalnews.com had already become the most popular Nepali website
soon after it started, it was in 2003 that cybernepal.com.np
really took off. In 2003, anoter player joined the game,
Partynepal.com. The popularity of these three websites remains
unmatched not just here in Nepal but amongst any Nepali
community across the globe. Newsofnepal.com is

#1www.nepalnews.com
Type: News portal.
Main Feature: First to publish almost any breaking news
in Nepal. News is otherwise updated regularly several times a
day, often with photos.
Other
features: Audio, video and photos. Weather and currency exchange
rates updated daily. Polls. Links to all daily, weekly,
fortnightly and monthly news publications. It also offers
several Nepali fonts for download.
Drawbacks: Many of the features clustered by small box
advertisements on either side of the page. Poor design by
comparison to other online news portals. The presentation as a
whole could improve.

#2
www.cybernepal.com.np
Type:
Entertainment portal.
Main Feature:
Models.
Other Features:
eCards, Mp3s, music videos, artist profiles and wallpapers.
Links to various websites they are affiliated to in the areas of
entertainment and online portals of other interests, including
afterslc.com.np and missnepal.com.np.
Drawbacks:
Although their ‘model feature’ draws them the audience to make
them #2 on our list, it is also perhaps the most controversy
ridden aspect of their website, because often the girls are
attired in the bare minimum and photographed in sexually
suggestive and provocative poses by the webmasters.
Cybernepal.com.np’s design has also spawned a number of copycats
in Nepal, but the homepage is very cluttered with too many boxes
of colours, images and texts.
|
Site created by: Dreams and Ideas
Note: Cybernepal.com.np has
contributed a great deal towards the progress of web development and
graphics in Nepal. The website is perhaps one of the first to achieve
this level of branding/ popularity not just amongst web surfers but also
the web site designing market in Nepal. |
#3
www.partynepal.com
Type: A party management company’s website.
Main Feature: Photos of the parties and the partygoers.
Other Features: They have recently added a download
section. Regularly advertises and lists various parties
happening in KTM.
Drawbacks: We agree that Partynepal.com never creates a
dull moment. But the design of the website is, unfortunately,
quite dull, especially when compared to the advertisements on
the front page.

Kamana Prakashan Samuha - The World Wide Web has spun its web in
such a way that the whole world is engulfed by it. Almost everyone is
affected by its profound impact- be it directly or indirectly. Kamana
Prakashan Samuha could not remain untouched by this technological
“treat” either.
With an objective to eradicate geographical boundaries and make our
publications available worldwide, we launched newsofnepal.com on
December 15th, 2002. Though started late, the official website of Kamana
Prakashan gained popularity very quickly. The main reason behind it
being the publications’ already established credibility. Now, we have
visitors from the US to UAE, from Nepal to Nigeria, from Australia to
Austria -basically from all over the world. This global recognition is
numerically reflected by the total number of visitors which surged to
2,920,000 within 1-year (2002-2003).
Kamana Prakashan has proved its innovativeness time and over- from
introducing Nepal’s first cine-magazine to becoming the first
publication house to go international. Following this track, we
developed an online portal in our very own national language. Being one
of the pioneers in launching a Nepali website in Nepali helped
newsofnepal.com build its own identity amidst existing websites.

newsofnepal.com has made it possible for visitors to view Nepal
